Life As A Content Creator

First and foremost for those of you following my blog here, I want to thank all of you for taking your time and reading my blog. So today, I would like to share with you my life as a content creator.

So, how did I become a content creator? UNEXPECTEDLY like really unexpectedly… HAHA so I was let go of my job at ABC7 due to covid which is understandable. But I got depressed and I felt so lost because that was my dream to work at the news and now because of covid, what was I going to do?

I then told myself.. I’m pretty active on Instagram, maybe I can do something with it and that is where it all started. It was hard at first because everyone was already vlogging/blogging and there were days it would get to me because I wanted to have at least 10k followers so then I can add a link to swipe up. I then learned that I just need to be myself when it comes to posting, have fun, and post about what I like, love, and enjoy! People started noticing and I now create content and manage instagram accounts for small and local businesses and it’s so much fun being my own boss but also helping others with my creative juices.

This carousel below is basically some photos of me starting out as an influencer/content creator. I am so proud and happy with my growth and everything I have learned from many other colleagues and fellow
Instagram friends!

I posted on my social media platforms questions people have for me and I would love to answer them, so here I go!

Q:What inspired you to be a content creator for small businesses?

A: I guess what inspired me is that after being let go of my job due to covid, I wanted to hustle, enjoy whatever I am doing, and still work LOL so I was thinking to myself, let me try growing my instagram account and post fun places, IG worthy food, and small businesses I support. Doing that helped me grow a following but also a relationship with other small businesses. The first business that really believed in my creativity is Calajo Catering (pls check them out) and it was so much fun working for them because as a content creator/manager they gave me freedom to be creative as it really didn’t feel like work. Also, I just really have a passion for smaller businesses because I truly feel the love and passion in whatever they make. Also, some of these small business owners, that is their only source of income and any support means a lot. Talking about small businesses my Kuya (older brother in Tagalog) and Ate (sister in Tagalog) also have a small business, Donia Begonia Kitchen please check them out!

Q: How did you grow your Instagram account?

A: Honestly not having work in the beginning of Covid gave me a lot of time to post and create everyday. Then it also gave me time to research about hashtags, what editing tools would be good to use, and etc. When reels came along, that was a miracle for myself and my account. For myself because even back at BU (Boston University) I loved and enjoyed editing videos…it was somewhat therapeutic to me. I think I love the aspect of creating one clip from 10-15 clips. For my account because my followers started growing once I started posting reels and especially reels of food and coffee.

Q: Can you talk a little bit about the types of brands that approach you?

A: In the beginning of covid I posted mostly coffee/food reels, and it was exactly restaurants and food companies that would DM me either through Instagram or my email. But, I have learned it is not bad to pitch myself to companies and brands I would like to work with. So no matter the amount of following I may have, I have learned to still reach out to brands I would like to work with, plus it keeps me busy always.

Q: What is your favorite thing about what you do?

A: My favorite thing about what I do is being able to be creative on my own terms. I love also seeing others being creative because it is so inspiring and I end up learning something new from that content creator.

Q: Why do you love social media?

A: I love that social media can help small and local businesses, raise awareness to important topics, and being able to meet like minded people. For example: I have met many talented and amazing content creators from Instagram who are now my friends and I am seriously happy I met them because they inspire me to create fun content!

Q: If one thing you could change about  Social media, what would it be?

A: How depressing it can make people feel. Also how much pain social media can cause to others. I’ve said this before where social media is amazing but also evil because social media can ruin in. I remember social media used to get to me because I didn’t look like the other influencers out there. Now I honestly OWN BEING MYSELF, SO OWN WHO YOU ARE!

Q: What do you do about nasty or negative commenters?

A: I have gotten this so much this year like I mentioned in my previous blog due to my weight and I will be honest it hurts. It would make me so angry and I would cry myself to sleep. But the more I got it made me stronger. Let me tell you now, no one.. I MEAN NO ONE DESERVES NASTY OR NEGATIVE COMMENTS AT ALL! I now let it go from one ear out of the other. I take a deep breathe in, know that I am loved, and accept that there is a deeper reason why that person is felt it was ok to make a nasty or negative comment.

Thank you for those who sent me these questions! If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to DM me on Instagram!
